Dr. Gutierrez is a Professor and Extension Economist in the Department of Extension Economics at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. Born and raised on a ranch near Grants, New Mexico, Dr. Gutierrez has served at three land grant universities, Colorado State University, Washington State University and New Mexico State University. Dr. Gutierrez’s Extension programs involve extensive work with producer clientele, dealing directly with “real time” production, marketing and financial management issues in production agriculture. The primary focus of Dr. Gutierrez’s research includes crop and range livestock production and marketing economics. Specific teaching goals included developing student’s critical thinking and analytical skills, both as individuals and as teams. At every opportunity students/farmers and ranchers are encouraged to take on a greater responsibility for their learning by providing critical evaluation of their performance.
