An interdisciplinary team of undergraduate and graduate student researchers are collaborating to better understand the economic value of guayule resin. Paula Mendoza Moreno is a junior undergraduate student in Colorado State University’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. She has been working with Hailey Summers and Evan Sproul, both PhD candidates in mechanical engineering, to better understand the potential value of guayule resin. By implementing Paula’s resin research into computer models developed by Hailey and Evan, the team is gaining a better understanding of how resin impacts the economic viability of guayule rubber. In addition to this research, the team is collaborating across a number of presentations and publications, giving Paula early exposure to graduate research and allowing Evan and Hailey to improve their mentoring skills. The team is advised by Dr. Jason Quinn and is housed within Colorado State University’s Powerhouse Energy Campus.
