Arisbeth Ibarra Nieblas is a first-year graduate student in the master’s program of Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona. She majored in chemical engineering at Technological Institute of Sonora (ITSON), Mexico, where she achieved a score of “Outstanding Performance” in the National Chemical Engineering General Knowledge Exam (EGEL-IQUIM).
Being a first-generation college graduate and an engineer, Arisbeth understands the importance of supporting education especially STEM. While in college, she spent over a year teaching children, ages 6 to 17, in the subject of math in one of her university’s community centers. As a SBAR graduate fellow, Arisbeth will help a Tucson sixth-grade teacher incorporate more science experiments into the curriculum, develop activities that involve complex topics like sustainability, and introduce diverse examples of scientists to the students.
