Unpacking the Science of Bioeconomies
The combined Jr/Sr FFA members from Roy, New Mexico unpacked their classroom kit filled with the equipment and supplies to support studying plant materials in New Mexico. These educational kits were provided through SBAR to support scientific opportunities in rural communities. The town of Roy, NM certainly qualifies as rural, with a population of 188 people in town, and only 441 people in all of Harding County.
Two of these students were winners in last years’ New Mexico State Fair, with projects related to plastics in the environment and cattails in livestock ponds. We can’t wait to see what science projects they develop this year, and we look forward to them adding to their scientific prowess to help study the development of sustainable bio-economies in arid regions! The photo was taken by their teacher, Becky Smith, who also serves on the New Mexico FFA Board of Trustees.
Activities and lessons where the science kits may be useful are now available! Check out the options in the SBAR files and see what youth opportunities are available for future engagement.
